Why You’re Doing Music Lessons WRONG
(And How to do Them RIGHT)

You’ve just gotten home from work.

It’s almost 6:00 PM.  You’ve been sitting in traffic.  But you’re finally home.

The kids have homework.  You have dinner to cook.  You have office emails to answer.

And  uh oh… tonight is music lesson night.  Which means…

  • You have to pack everyone back in the car
  • Head off to the music store
  • Sit in a crowded room and wait
  • Meanwhile, your child is crammed into a tiny practice room
  • The teacher is getting paid a tiny fraction of what you’re paying for lessons
  • Then you have to load everything back in the car and drive all the way back home

Don’t forget…

Homework hasn’t been done.

Dinner hasn’t been made.

And those work emails haven’t been answered.

You’re paying $35 for a 30 minute lesson.  But with traffic… it’s more like an hour out of your day.

That’s not worth your time.

And definitley not worth your money.

But the sad thing is… this is the reality for most parents and students.

This is what most people THINK they have to endure to provide music lessons for their kids.

Same situation.

But instead of having to pack the kids up and head back out to the music studio, you can relax.

Seriously.  Relax.

How is this possible?

Because unlike traditional music lessons, we come to you.

We teach music lessons in the comfort of your own home.

You can spend some time catching up on work, getting dinner started, or just chilling out for a little bit while we have fun and learn how to play some music!

This means…

  • No traffic.
  • No hauling kids and gear.
  • No interruption to your routine.
  • No more packing up music gear.
  • No more sitting in a crowded music store.

And when the lesson’s over… that’s it!

We go home, you continue relaxing.

Enjoy time with your family, get back to your life.

Oh… and the best part?   We offer pay-as-you-go lessons.  No contracts, obligation, or committment.

Vacation planned?  Suprise play practice, baseball game, or art class?

Just let us know ahead of time and we’ll skip next week’s lesson.  No charge.

Some of Our Happy Students....

Not only is he personable, trustworthy, and a professional teacher, he has kept my daughter engaged in guitar since the first lesson two years ago. (After that first lesson, my daughter said she learned more in one hour than in a year of guitar class at school.)

Fantastic teacher. My son (7) has been taking lessons from him for two years, and I started last year. I can’t believe how much we’ve both progressed.  Not only is my son learning how to play, but he is also getting the foundation for a lifelong love and appreciation of music. And it’s very satisfying for me to finally be playing the pieces that I’ve sung along to on the radio for all these years.

We have an outstanding teacher (and all-around cool guy). His approach is completely tailored to the individual and he gets you playing within the first lesson. He works with you so that you can play exactly what you want to play, and then he can take you to the next level. He is patient and resourceful about engaging students and he’s a great choice for kids and adults. And he comes to you! What could be better? Two thumbs up!

Anywhere in Maryland, We'll Teach You....

Why Severn River Music Lessons Work....

Relax (Seriously)

We waste enough time as it is commuting between commitments.

That’s why we come to you

All of our lessons are in your home.

Here’s why:

It’s easier for you.

It’s a more comfortable and safe learning environment.

And students just respond better, practice more, and don’t quit as frequently.

…Oh… and it’s way more fun.

You'll Actually Learn What YOU Want

Traditional music lessons use a cookie cutter, one-size-fits-all approach.

That doesn’t make sense

Everyone learns in different ways.

So we teach you based on your learning style.

All of our teachers will take the time to talk with you and figure out the best course of action to help you learn your instrument.

We specifically develop our lessons around your needs and your goals.

Lessons for Busy Kids (and Adults)

With most music lessons you have to meet at the same day and time every week.

That’s not fair.

We know you’re busy… so we’re flexible

Last minute conflict?

No problem, we can reschedule for a different day, or just skip this week.

No charge.

No hassle.

…. excellent teacher. He has really listened to my goals and reasons for wanting to learn to play guitar. His teaching style has allowed me to be very successful in such a short time. I have no previous musical training but this is no problem…

Padma W.

Perfect teacher for my (almost) 11 year old. He really works with his interests and skills and has a wonderful way with kids.Having been through some torturous music lessons when I was a child, it is truly inspiring to see how much my son looks forward to their time together. I highly recommend!

Amy B.

…teaching my 5 year old daughter the guitar and she loves it. He jokes around enough to make it fun but not enough to get off track. He makes use of every minute that he is there so there is no wasted time. My younger children love him too and he can teach even with a 3 and 2 year old around. My daughter is making more progress than expected for her age…. Highly recommend.

About Us...

From our owner, Jake Posko:

I started teaching guitar lessons as a little side hobby.

What started as a fun side hobby has turned into a full time (but awesome job).

We’re so happy to offer lessons throughout Anne Arundel, PG, and Howard County.  We travel just about everywhere, including Annapolis, Severna Park, Arnold, Broadneck, Cape St. Claire, and Pasadena, and Columbia.

On a personal note, I have spent my entire life performing, and have over 25 years of guitar experience.  I have been performing professionally in the Baltimore/Washington area for over 15 years – including local venues like Rams Head and Stan & Joe’s.

In addition to my background in music, I hold a Bachelors Degree in Psychology from The University of Maryland College Park, along with professional experience in higher education, in an advising and counseling capacity.

My favorite artists include Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, The Black Keys, Paul Simon, Jack Johnson, Mason Jennings, and the list goes on.

If you have any questions I’m always available.  Feel free to email me at: jake@jakeposko.com or give me a call: 410-635-1189
